Welcome to Daniel's Den Playground!
My husband, our three children and I live in Lancaster County. Our family envisioned Daniel's Den because we wanted our youngest son Daniel to experience childhood to the fullest (like his siblings and friends), regardless of his abilities. Community playgrounds made this difficult; Daniel needed swings with support and ramps that led somewhere other than to another step. After examining this situation more closely, I realized that there are a lot of other Lancaster County families in our shoes. . .the rest, as they say, is history.
Being a child with a disability often means being left out. Daniel's Den Playground is completely committed to ensuring that ALL children experience "play" activities together; this inclusion, in turn, will foster a new generation of acceptance. I feel very passionate about this and it is my motivation for the entire playground. As such, we have not only considered physical mobility issues but also hearing- and vision-impaired concerns and will be using sensory integration in the playground.
There are many opportunities to become involved in this wonderful project; the success of this playground will be a byproduct of a tremendous collaboration by the community. Please check out our "Get Involved" tab and see where you might lend a hand.
Thank you for your consideration,
Denise Haldeman
